Slager has announced his intention to retire from the Company after having served as CEO for over a decade and COO for almost a decade previously. The move marks the conclusion of a thoughtful and comprehensive multi-year CEO succession planning process. President Jon Vander Ark will succeed Slager as CEO of the company. Vander Ark will also continue as Chairman and will be appointed to the Board of Directors. The transition will be effective June 25, 2021. Slager will serve as a consultant until 2021 to complete this orderly and transparent transition.

Slager’s experience in the waste industry spans over four decades. He first worked in the company as a truck washer as a young teenager before starting his full-time career in the maintenance shop in 1980. He then held several positions as a driver and has was appointed to a supervisory position at the age of 24. was subsequently and continuously appointed to positions of increasing responsibility. In 1985, Slager joined National Waste Services, a private Chicago, and led this organization in 1992 when it became one of the key companies of Allied Waste Industries, Inc. Slager held a number of positions at Allied before joining the corporate team in 1998 and becoming COO in 2002. Slager oversaw Allied’s groundbreaking merger with Republic in 2008 and was appointed CEO in 2011.

Vander Ark was appointed President of the Republic in May 2019, and currently leads the continued transformation and continued growth of the company, with responsibility for operations, sales, marketing and business development. Vander Ark served as executive vice president of the company, chief operating officer of january 2018 at May 2019. Previously, he was Executive Vice President of the Company, Corporate Operations march 2016 to January 2018. Vander Ark joined the Republic team in January 2013 as executive vice president, chief marketing officer.
