In 2021, nearly 13% of RSG’s replacement vehicle purchases were CNG vehicles. Despite higher expenses, CNG lowers the company’s overall fleet operating costs by reducing fuel expenses. As of December 31, 2021, Republic Services operated 40 CNG refueling stations.

In 2021, 2020, and 2019, the company repurchased shares worth $252.2 million, $98.8 million, and $399.4 million, respectively. It paid $552.6 million, $522.5 million, and $491.2 million in dividends in 2021, 2020, and 2019, respectively. Such initiatives demonstrate the company’s commitment to creating value for its shareholders and underscore its confidence in its business. These initiatives not only inspire investor confidence, but also have a positive impact on earnings per share.
Republic Services’ cash and cash equivalents balance of $29 million at the end of the fourth quarter of 2021 was well below the long-term debt level of $9.55 billion, underscoring that the company does not does not have enough liquidity to meet this debt burden.
